Robot Rock du Jour: Nine Circles - Twinkling Stars (1982)

Ridiculously deep Dutch minimal synth. This expresses my way of being perfectly.

Classic female-fronted minimal wave, Netherlands based band Nine Circles released only one album; their self-titled disc was released in 1996 but is comprised of tracks recorded in 1982. Though the band's material scattered across various compilation appearances, it took 14 years for this collection to surface, and there's little information about this band to be found otherwise.

Here are a few tracks "Mister Nothing" "New Era" and "Tsar Bomba" from their website.

Robot Rock du Jour: Palais Schaumburg - Telephon (1981)

RAMPAGE! I'm in love with this stuff. Thick guitar basslines, tweaked synths, angsty vocals, drums, actual germans...

Robot Rock du Jour: Informatics - Dance to a Dangerous Beat (1980 - 1985)

Previously unreleased, masterfully minimal work from Australia's cutting edge art-school synth-pop outfit Informatics. This material dates from 1980 - 1985 and is finally seeing the light of day thanks to Josh at Dark Entries in SF. Not sure what the hell is going on this video, but who cares?!

Available on Dark Entries Records http://darkentriesrecords.com/ http://www.discogs.com/Informatics-Dance-To-A-Dangerous-Beat/release/4125687 "Factory Nightlife 03" is from the "Dance to a Dangerous Beat" compilation album by Australian synth-punk band INFORMATICS, re-issued on Dark Entries Records in January 2013. The song was originally composed in 1983 and never released. "Dance To A Dangerous Beat" collects 16 songs recorded between 1981 and 1985.

The name of the larger compilation was derived from lyrics to this song off their debut 7" Dezinformatsiya. "Living in real time is hard to do."

Dezinformatsiya 7''. what a world, what a crazy place to meet, move to the rhythm, dance to a dangerous beat. when the world split up you gotta split up too, living life in real time is hard to do

Robot Rock du Jour: Neon Indian (2009)

Although still a bit self-conscious and borderline radio friendly, the combination of 8-bit feel and vintage synths with some 21st century compression is post-worthy. A little grooming, a bit more suffering and these kids could really develop a sound. It is synth meets indie meets navel-gazing pop. Straight outta...Texas? Love it. Peep the analog video synth work as well!

An LZX Industries / Blackmagic Rollercoaster Production Directed by Lars Larsen Videography by Blackmagic Rollercoaster Physical Effects & Construction by Jonah Lange Starring Kaylan Drake Burnette Special thanks to Scott Gelber, Malcolm Welbourne, Ben Aqua, Christine Aprile, Juan Cisneros, Katie Graham, Chad Allen, Tommy Blackburn, Michael Stein, Nick Smith, Scott Whiteman, Wiley Wiggins and many others Lars Larsen is an electronics designer and multimedia artist in Austin, Texas. Larsen's work focuses on synergistic relationships between technology and subject, and the resurrection of forgotten pre-Computer Age technologies. Over the past few years, he and partner Edward Leckie of Sydney, Australia have been developing an analogue video synthesizer called the LZX Visionary in the tradition of esoteric video art tools used in the 1970's. The LZX Visionary manipulates and creates images in the same way a normal synthesizer does for sounds. Mind Drips is the first music video to utilize this unique synthesizer, and all of its visual effects are recorded in real-time using techniques such as abstract pattern synthesis, video feedback, and analog compositing. Robot Rock du Jour: Liaisons Dangereuses - Los Niños Del Parque (1981)

German EBM (Electronic Body Music) pioneers, Liaisons Dangereuses are goin' for it full throttle on this track. This particular live version was filmed in Manchester in 1982. Acid synthlines abound, making this track a landmark Chicago/Detroit precursor. iSpy my favorite synth duo the Korg MS-20 and MS-50.

(Live Manchester 07.07.1982) (VHS Record) The little kids in the park are really lucky They go walking Holding hands Dreaming about candy which doesnt cost any money But.. Who dares to say they are innocents?

Synth goddess and band co-founder Beate Bartel was also one of the original members of the avant-garde band Einstürzende Neubauten. This next live version was filmed at a music festival in Düsseldorf. Check out pink hair at 1:21!!

For comparison purposes, I've also included a still frame video for the 12" version.
