Case Study: Redesigning Stanford's Recycling Program

In 2009, classmate Purin Phanichphant and I were awarded a grant from the Stanford Sustainability Fund to redesign campus-wide recycling signage. Working closely with the organization responsible for solid waste on campus, the project quickly evolved into a comprehensive restructuring of recycling policy as well as communications design. I was invited to speak about this project and systems design at the Lincoln Center in NYC as part of the GE/Cooper-HewittWhy Design Now? conference organized by Bill Moogridge.

At the Why Design Now? Solving Global Challenges Conference, Joel Towers leads a lively panel discussion with young designers that are challenging the status quo.

A presentation of our findings to the campus sustainability council is below, detailing our research, findings and successful interventions.
